STRATEGIC DIRECTION 1 - ENHANCE USER DISCOVERY AND DELIVERY OF LIBRARY RESOURCES AND SERVICES

Objective 1. Pursue unified search/request environment for all UW System library collections.

  • Sponsored teleconference on Resource Discovery and UW System Libraries
  • Had representative participate in work of the Resource Discovery Experimentation task force activities leading up to the development of an RFI
  • Drafted questions  and an environmental scan for the RFI and user testing from the user perspective
  • Sponsored teleconference on Next generation resource delivery: creating a shared vision of the UB, ILL, user-initiated borrowing and resource sharing landscape of tomorrow
  • Participated in the UB renewals and patron information retention work group tasked with recommending UB policy
  • Participated in the Resource Delivery work group

Objective 2.  Increase access through digital formats to library and institutional content.

  • Participated in BX Recommender test, evaluation and acquisition

Objective 3.  Improve on and off campus access and simplify use of all resources.

  • See Objectives 1 and 2.
  • Sponsored teleconference on Pandemic Planning for User Services.
  • Sponsored teleconference on Next generation resource delivery: creating a shared vision of the UB, ILL, user-initiated borrowing and resource sharing landscape of tomorrow.
  • Sponsored CUWL Conference sessions on Chat, texting, IM, SMS and Mobile Computing in Libraries and Universities
  • The Distance Library Services Standing Committee met bimonthly via teleconference, and in-person at the CUWL conference, to discuss issues related to providing service to distance education students.

Planned for 2010/11:

  • Sponsor a teleconference and/or CUWL conference session on Teaching with Xerxes.


STRATEGIC DIRECTION 2 - BUILD PARTNERSHIPS FOR ADVANCING LEARNING AND SCHOLARSHIP

Objective 1.  Enhance alliances and communication with senior campus administrators, faculty, students, public policy makers and the K-12 community.

  • Sponsored teleconference on Library collaborations with student services

Planned for 2010/11:

  • Sponsor a teleconference and/or CUWL conference session on library initiatives with campus first year experience (FYE) programs.
  • Sponsor a teleconference and/or CUWL conference session librarian liaison programs.
  • Conduct a survey to inventory what libraries are doing to reach out to the K-12 community and sponsor a teleconference and/or CUWL conference session on the findings.

Objective 3.  Incorporate information literacy skills/learning outcomes into campus core competencies.

Planned for 2010/11: \

  • Sponsor a teleconference and/or CUWL conference session on Liberal Education America’s Promise (LEAP) and integration of information literacy into campus liberal education (general education) goals.

    Objective 5.  Continue to develop a comprehensive program for cooperative collection development across the UW System.
  • Participated in work groups charged with providing recommendations on shared purchases (American Chemical Society subscription and Emerald subscription)


STRATEGIC DIRECTION 3 - REALIGN PRIORITIES AND BUDGETS TO IMPROVE SERVICES FOR USERS

Objective 1. Develop culture of assessment to better align collections, services, and spaces with user needs.

  • Sponsored CUWL Conference session on Home Brewed Assessment.

    Planned for 2010/11
  • Conduct a survey to inventory library instruction assessment expertise and experiences in the UW system and sponsor a teleconference and/or CUWL conference session on the topic.
  • Sponsor a teleconference and/or CUWL conference session on assessing reference service.

Objective 3.  Research models for changing work flows to achieve efficiencies and cost savings

  • Sponsored teleconference on Next generation resource delivery: creating a shared vision of the UB, ILL, user-initiated borrowing and resource sharing landscape of tomorrow.

Objective 4.  Prepare staff for changes that will allow the UW Libraries to best serve the faculty and students in the future.

  • Sponsored teleconference on Resource Discovery and UW System Libraries.
  • Sponsored teleconference on Pandemic Planning for User Services.
  • Sponsored teleconference on Next generation resource delivery: creating a shared vision of the UB, ILL, user-initiated borrowing and resource sharing landscape of tomorrow.
  • Sponsored teleconference on What we have in Commons: the Library Learning.

  • Sponsored six sessions at the CUWL Summer conference

    Plans for 2010/11:

  • Sponsor six teleconferences and several CUWL conference sessions to share expertise and facilitate discussion among colleagues throughout the state on current issues in user services

Objective 5.  Rework the traditional library to support student success.
