LAMS teleconference meeting minutes

September 29, 2010 @3:00

Campus Participants:  Terri Muraski (SP), Bill Doering (LAX), Tim Salm (WW), Marlys Brunsting (GB), LuEllen Breed (Park), Barb Fahey (OSH), Jon Musselman (PL), Kristen Lindquist (SUP), Mitch Lundquist (MAD) Bryan Vogh (EC), Maureen Olle-Lajoie (RF), Susan Lindahl (Stout), Felice Maciejewski (SYS)

1. Welcome, introduction of Felice Maciejewski, the new System Library Consultant.

2. SSNs in Voyager – all primary campus patron databases are free of SSNs.  Those remaining in stub records can be cleared through a charge/discharge process supplied by ExLibris.  If that does not work, submit an SI to ExLibris asking them to clear remaining records.  It was also noticed that we still have many phantom holds in stub records.

3. Voyager upgrade – two problems have been reported to ExLibris:

- Due date computation issues
- Advanced search problems when nesting terms
Ex Libris is pointing to the next release for resolution of these problems.  If there is a new release in the fall that only requires a patch, we will consider applying the patch in January.  Full upgrades that require a regen will have to wait until summer.

4. Patron Authentication issues – IAA/Forward – Voyager & Illiad
Bryan V. is looking into using the Shibboleth server in Madison to allow authentication using the regular NetId in Voyager and Illiad.   Mitch explained that this is directly related to the IAA project and authentication for UB in Forward.  David Hall is currently gathering information on the Campus IDs used in Voyager.  Mitch will share David’s request and previous responses on the LAMs list.  Both projects – Forward and Voyager/Illiad are waiting on information regarding in which field the ID# for the library systems will be placed.  One additional issue is that Illiad requires unique numbers across all of the comprehensive campuses, since they are on one server.  We may also need to supply OCLC symbols, as some campuses are appending the OCLC symbol to their campus ID to guarantee that the ID is unique throughout the entire system.

5. SFX & Metalib upgrades – information was forwarded from Curran Riley.   This email does specify that we will all need to upgrade to SFX 4 at the same time.  Terri will check with Curran  on this.

6. Efficiencies Task Force charge to LTCC.
Jim explained that the charge was clarified at the CUWL meeting.  There are three main components:

1. Show alternative models for managing technology resources in a consortial environment – with focus on Illinois and Georgia
2. Prepare snapshot of current campus ommonalities
3. Present a spectrum of possibilities with analysis of tradeoffs involved in centralization/ autonomy

Ezproxy – Maureen was gathering info on whether campuses are using hostname or port for Ezproxy services because of issues connecting to the Badgerlink Wisconsin newspapers product.
