Discussion of new committee charges from CUWL:
- The primary charge to all coordinating committees is to consider issues related to Resource Discovery, and to identify criteria, from each committee’s perspective, for selection of a new Resource Discovery interface. Some possible issues DICC may need to address involve the display of metadata, ingest of metadata, collection scoping, and integration of results with other materials – books, articles, etc.
- Committee proposes identifying other institutions that are also currently involved in the resource discovery process, such as U of Minnesota, Virginia, and Stanford, and review their work. Gorman will identify institutions and share other with committee members for study prior to January.
- Brief discussion of an OCLC/OAIster issue regarding a proposed contract for rights to metadata.
- Discussed role of committee in further charges. DICC committees work will likely be more involved in future assessment.
- Discussion of charge relating to improving display of archival content. Doylen will draft a list of possible issues and share with committee.
- Discussion of change in Minds@UW service model, and possible role of committee in developing marketing strategy, etc.
- Discussion of charge relating to data curation issue. DICC can help raise issue, and explain to campuses. Possibility of recording talk on issue, to make available. Possibly draft “white paper” on issue for directors to help with identifying needs at various campuses.
- Committee to discuss Minds@UW service model at January meeting.
Next DICC meeting: January 6, 2010 @ 2:30
