Since April the DICC met two times via teleconference (July 2nd, and July 17th) to discuss the group’s Action Items.
ACTION ITEMS: PROGRESS REPORTS
Action Item 1 – Comprehensive digital plan.
The DICC met via teleconference on July 17th to edit the working group’s draft digital plan. The committee is relabeling the document the “CUWL Digital Initiatives Status Report and Future Vision: 2008” as we felt a “comprehensive digital plan” suggested a strategic plan which has its on format and presumed content. The document will include no fewer than 10 recommendations to CUWL, however. Many of these recommendations will address CUWL strategic goals. The document will be delivered as scheduled to CUWL at its October meeting.
Action Item 2 – Assessment
Tobias and working group member Melissa McLlimens have created a draft plan for the first phase of their UWDCC assessment activities. This was distributed to the DICC at a July 2nd teleconference. Attached is an abbreviated version of this draft. The first assessment phase is a “penetration survey” and will focus on faculty members at UW-Madison, La Crosse, Oshkosh and Milwaukee. These campuses were selected somewhat arbitrarily but his does not preclude further penetration surveys elsewhere.
Action Item 3 – MINDS@UW
The MINDS@UW working group presented their draft plan for the repository to the DICC at our July 2 teleconference. This substantial document will be modified slightly due to DICC input and a digested version will be created. Both documents will be distributed to CUWL as scheduled for the October meeting.
Action Item 4 - Migration of off-line media
The group discussed this action item at its July 17th . Based discussions amongst members of the committee it was decided that this action item was ill conceived. With ample sources of information on digital migration of audio, video and film collections online, it was concluded that there is little more the committee could do to help UW libraries with these efforts. True assistance would involve a central service center to provide migration services at below market costs. In lieu of this, any information the DICC might create or assemble is a risk of being outdated and insufficient for the particulars of any project at the time of need.
The DICC asks CUWL to allow it to remove this action item from its scheduled activities.
PROJECT PROPOSALS
There were no new UWDC project proposals brought to the DICC since April.
