CUWL CRS Committee
Conference Call
Wednesday January 2, 2008
Present: Ewa Barczyk, Ron Hardy, Karen Jander, John Jax, Lisa Jewell, Paul Moriarty, Lisa Pillow, Richard Reeb, Tom Reich, Mary Rieder, Kathy Schneider,
Chair Reeb called meeting to order at 2:03 p.m.
Library Dynamics update
Reeb suggested that there should be the formation of a small, representative UWS working group for this product. Howard Harris, Library Dynamics president, will be in Madison during late January (22nd, 23rd & 24th) to give presentation/training sessions. Barczyk said we should think about this product both consortially (UWS System level) and at the local level (such as utilization for accreditation purposes). Many CRS members indicated that attendance at this meeting would conflict with prior scheduling commitments. More details about this working group will be finalized later. Reeb will follow up with campuses with no CRS membership that have not finished their profiles.
Wiki update
Reeb wants this committee to have access to various UWS documents (i.e., SEC budget) to facilitate communication and knowledge sharing. Reeb referred to Steve Frye’s email from 12/19/07 (cuwlwiki.wetpaint.com).
Document Delivery working group update
Ron Hardy summarized the Document Delivery working group’s efforts. They are considering products like Science Direct, CISTI, Wiley, Springer, Kluwer, etc… Further details will be proposed to this group and at the next CUWL Directors meeting. This group will have a conference call on January 4th.
Other
Reeb reminded members about the July-Dec. 2007 (4800) monographic expenditures report to ensure campuses are on target to meet the Blackwell’s quota levels. The deadline for this report is Jan. 18th.
Barczyk inquired about the DIN work being done related to the possibility of having system wide access to UW Madison’s electronic resources. Reeb reported that their group is following up on this, but that obtaining pricing from vendors without exact specifics is extremely difficult. In order to make this process easier, Reeb is trying to categorize pricing by discipline related e-resources. Hardy suggested another approach such as using SFX to target e-resources (databases or journals). Moriarty re-sent out Jax’s email about this. Jander said the real problem is getting the quote from a vendor such as Elsevier (can take months). The Din working group needs to propose something by early March.
No new business.
The next meeting will be scheduled on Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
John Jax
